I can shoot space invaders to Plan Nine from Outer Space, yeah. Oh, and they went heavy on 1950s sci-fi for the soundtrack, and although not Iwadare quality, it's fitting. One of the weapons is a shuriken, that slices Space Invaders in half, sending their split bodies outward for more destruction. If you wondered how a sequel would have turned out, Space Invaders for the Game Boy Color is as close as anyone had ever gotten to making one. I don't say that often, but I like this game, and I like that you've given it more coverage than it's probably gotten in the last ten years. Yuzo Koshiro has to settle for being a kick-ass duke. the intro / attract mode video(s) as well as the soundtrack. He and the Basiscape guy are like, the KINGS of the Genesis sound processor. Sound and music: YM2151 chipPlaylist feat. you will feel exactly what Iwadare wants you to feel at any given moment. Forget the all-Rush mix tape, THIS is the music I want to hear while gunning down aliens! It's driving, it's ethereal, it's creepy, it's majestic (but not twelve). "Holy crap, they're right on top of me already!" Yeah, you'd BETTER start shooting, like right now, or you're toast!īut the best part of all is yes, Iwadare's soundtrack. The widescreen graphics and, ahem, Reubenesque space invaders that didn't have much room to march? Okay, that kind of sucked, but it gets the player involved right away. Graphics? I think they fit the outer space theme well enough, with different species of alien and attractive if overly tiled backgrounds. Those sneaky skill-based bonuses? Loved them! They were like caveman achievements.
